Knowledge-Based Engineering
Using engineering knowledgeware for parametric design. Engineering knowledgeware contains functional elements that link geometric (dimensional) and engineering parameters of a designed product. Parameters are linked by formula, rules, calculation tables, laws, validations, and a system of equations and inequations. Expert rules and validations are different from other knowledgeware relations because instead of specific parameters they can be linked to the whole model by setting the feature patterns to which the rules and validations will be applied. Expert rules are grouped in the rule base that forms the corporate know-how. Parametric optimization is part of the functionality of the knowledgeware design systems – an ability to minimize, maximize or approximate the target value of an arbitrary geometric or engineering parameter of a model.
