Company History

Aras was founded in 2000 by Peter Schroer. Peter's goal was to create a modern PLM software application based on internet technologies.

Product

The product is known as Aras Innovator. It consists of a model based service oriented architecture framework, and several applications. Applications include: PLM APQP Quality

The software is based on Microsoft technology and requires SQL Server, IIS, and IE to run.

Business Model

Aras started as a typical enterprise software vendor. In early 2007 the Aras Innovator solution was release as open source. This meant that up front license fees were no longer charged. Aras does sell optional support contracts for hotline, patches and training.
