The first format specification was developed in 1980 owning to the efforts of Boeing and General Electric, and in 1981 it was accepted as [[ANSI]] standard. The first version was designed mainly for drawing exchange between drawing automation systems. 2.0 version supported data for the finite elements analysis and specific elements of p-c boards. 3.0 version supported user macro commands, and 4.0 – solid bodies in the form of CSG trees, while 5.0 supported the Brep structure.
